What to see on a weekend in the center of Lisbon
Plan a weekend to visit the charming city of the old continent. In this blog post we leave you some tips on what to see on a weekend in the centre of Lisbon
There is so much to see and do in this charming Old World city that it's hard to fully appreciate it in two or three days. However, considering that its main attractions are close to each other (except those in the Belém district), if you take your time you can enjoy it a lot, but without accessing the interior of the different monuments. Whether or not to enter them (cloisters, monastery, castle) is your decision. In this article we leave you a selection of what you cannot miss if you spend a weekend in the center of Lisbon.
A Baixa
This is the downtown district. Located between Alfama and Chiado, it occupies two hills and has many attractions. Commerce Square is a must-stop in the city. In this square you can go up to the viewpoint of the Augusta Street Arch, which has impressive views.
House of Peaks
Saramago Foundation: around the Commerce Square, in the direction of Alfama, is the House of Peak. Visiting it is a tribute to the great writer José Saramago.
Figueira Square and Church of Santo Domingo
It is a spectacular church located in a small square next to the Figueira Square, which is also worth a stop.
Rossio Square
Large stone square with the pattern of sea waves. This square is worth a visit. Several streets run parallel from Rossio Square. Walk along the pavement and take the opportunity to go up and down, taking the river as a reference.
Alfama neighbourhood
Change neighbourhoods and climb the steep streets of the Alfama neighbourhood, you cannot miss this.
Lisbon Cathedral
The famous cathedral that all tourists photograph when the tram passes in front of them. It is one of the biggest attractions in Lisbon and one that you definitely have to visit on your weekend in central Lisbon.
Luzia viewpoint
A little above the cathedral is this beautiful viewpoint. You will find it very close, going up the neighboring street. Ideal to sit and sunbathe, read and above all enjoy the view.
Castle of Saint George
On the highest hill in Lisbon are the ruins of the Castle of Sain Geroge. The castle was badly damaged by the 1755 earthquake, but thanks to the fact that its restoration began in 1910 (along with the fact that it has one of the best views of the capital) it has become one of the main attractions of the city.
